Physiology
Hello Spartan community! As we embark on another academic year, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on the journey we've been through together and share some exciting prospects for the future of the department.
Depression often appears quietly, like a thief in the night, and can steal our ability to be productive at work and home, our desire to socialize, or even the enjoyment we get out of everyday living. Check out our feature story on NatSci geneticist A.J. Robinson, who is using CRISPR gene editing to illuminate the hidden pathways of depression; read a giving profile on Mark R. Hanson, O.D. (B.S., Physiology, ’78); and learn more about our newest faculty and staff members and other department activities in our 2021 newsletter.
When people have heart attacks, nearly half the tissue damage occurs when doctors restore blood flow, flooding oxygen-deprived cells with new oxygen and overloading them with calcium. Check out our feature story on how NatSci researchers are using cryogenic electron microscopy to zoom in on cardiac mitochondria and tissue damage in the heart, read a giving profile on Dr. Matt Moll (B.S., Physiology, ’07), and learn more about our newest faculty and staff members in our 2019 newsletter.
